Arrival and First Impressions #

My wife and I recently took a quick trip to Miami, and let me tell you, this city has a vibrant, dual-energy vibe that’s hard to pin down.

Even before our plane touched down, I was captivated.

Peering out the window at the shimmering turquoise waters, the endless coastline of sleek hotels, condos, and towering buildings along pristine sandy beaches-it was breathtaking. I found myself wondering, “What does it take to live like the people down there?” You know, the ones on those private islands (if you can call them that), tucked away behind gates, separated from the rest of Miami.

From above, it all looked so serene.

The energy shifts the moment you step off the plane. Outside Miami International Airport, as you wave down to grab a taxi or meet your Uber driver, the pace picks up.

Everything moves fast.

The drive to South Beach keeps that momentum going. Heading east on I-195, crossing the Intracoastal Waterway, you glance south and spot rows of gleaming yachts docked in front of stunning mansions, all in pristine condition. I couldn’t help but wonder, “What do those people do for a living?”

The thought of that kind of success—no more financial worries—was inspiring. With clear skies and my wife by my side, I knew we were in for a great time.

After checking in, we strolled along A1A, soaking in the shops, the people, and the atmosphere. The crowd was incredibly diverse, rivaling places like San Francisco or New York City. Tourists, native Miamians, business folks, techies—you name it, they were all there, filling the sidewalks.

I loved it.

I mentioned that dual-energy vibe earlier, and that’s Miami in a nutshell. On one hand, you’ve got people here for a carefree vacation. On the other, there’s a driven crowd working hard to build their empires.

As someone in tech, I knew Miami had a tech scene, but I was blown away by how much it’s growing. A Forbes article from August 2023 summed it up well:

Miami’s business environment has played a pivotal role in fostering the growth of the technology sector. The region boasts a business-friendly tax structure, regulatory policies that encourage entreprenuership, and a supportive network of investory and venture capitalists. Examples can be seen in initiatives like Venture Miami

Wrapping up, my next trip to Miami will be of business and pleasure. I’m excited and more motivated than ever everytime I leave Miami.
